Update: Saturday, June 18, 2011

- I was at Imants funeral service and there was a roomful of punk rockers. I realized that I hadnt put up the Spoiled Rotten session which was a session that Imants had encouraged us to record. He talked very highly of all the work that Larry has done with his band and the label Amp Records. So at the beginning of January in 2009 they played a session and did an amazing Screeching Weasel cover in the set. You can hear the whole thing or download songs from that session at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2009/01/sunday-january-04-2009.html.
- Teen Anger did a session a month later that I had forgotten how good was. They sound so much like the Cramps it is ridiculous. You can now download their session at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2009/02/sunday-february-22-2009.html.
- Inepsy played a Legion hall last night so in honour of them I uploaded the session they recorded when they were down opening up for the Varukers and can be downloaded at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2006/09/sunday-september-10-2006.html.

Tune in Sunday night with a live interview with Teenage X and we will be playing material from the Studio 3 session recorded on Tuesday, as well as some material from their new CD.

More Studio 3 sessions have gone up which include:

-Saigon Distress Signal recorded a session in April 2005 that you can now hear at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2005/04/radio-sunday-april-3-2005.html.- Riot Brigade from Hamilton had a slight crossover sound. They recorded this awesome session at the old studio that you can now download at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2005/11/sunday-november-13-2005.html.
- Cobra Noir, who were from Montreal and had that emo-crust sound that the Swarm had at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2006/05/sunday-may-21-2006.html
- Boulevard Trash who were Toronto's answer to the Exploding Hearts recorded a session in 2006. There session is now up at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2006/06/sunday-june-25-2006.html.

- The Nymphets from Montreal showed up one night with Bob Burns and the Breakups so we recorded both bands live from the floor because we didn't have time to pre-record a proper session. But that's how we used to do it in the old days. Anyway the Nymphets session is up at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2007/06/sunday-june-24-2007.html. They remind me of a Ramones fans doing a lo fi hybrid of the Exploding Hearts and Jonathon Richmond.
- The Restarts from the UK played on the show when they were playing here for the "Outsider" tour. They recorded a session the night they landed and it is up here under the night we broadcast the session - http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2008/06/sunday-june-1-2008.html.
- a set of originals was recorded by the Screwed and can be pulled down at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2008/08/sunday-august-10-2008.html. The band is a set of scene veterans paying homage to the original wave of punk. The band features Steve Saint from the Sinisters, Steve Koch from the Viletones / Demics, John Borra of Neon Rome, and Cleave Anderson of Battered Wives / Tyranna fame.
- The Vatican Chainsaw Massacre session was recorded at the beginning of 2009. You can download the files from http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2009/01/sunday-january-18-2009.html.
- 63 Monroe are an incredible band from London, Ontario and part of the incredible story is that they are still active as a band. They recorded a session in September 21st, 2008 but the session was aired a few months later. You can get the session at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2009/02/sunday-february-1-2009.html.
- City Sweethearts recorded a session in 2009. They were a lot more polished, but they had guys in that band that were in Riot99 and Vicious Cycle, and Action and maybe Marvelous Darlings. They did some neat covers like the Monks and the Fun Things for this set. You can hear it at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2009/07/sunday-july-6-2009.html.

Update: Saturday, May 21, 2011

Last week, when we posted up the Vicious Cycle studio 3 recording I realized their releases had not been posted. So I went and back posted their releases based roughly on when they came out. I also found out in the Knucklehead interview that there is a band from Vancouver with a similar name Vicious Cycles who love motorcycles. It came up in the interview when talking about "The First Kick" which is about Kyle's love of motorcycles.

Last week we interviewed the Tranzmitors from Vancouver for a future broadcast. This week we spoke with Karen Jankulak and Bruce Gosebee from the bands the Babyslitters and the V-Necks. Both bands are part of this city's early punk scene and part of the untold story only talked about at reunions. Karen brought in some flyers for the V-Necks shows so those have been scanned and posted by date of the show. Search "THE V-NECKS" filter. This interview should be going to air in a couple of weeks. We have an interview scheduled with Jennifer Morton who wrote the book "Dirty Drunk and Punk", which is a book about BFG. Crazy Steve has agreed to be part of that.

The new Tyranna LP just came out. The LP contains a bunch of unheard of recordings by the band and I believe represents the rest of the unreleased studio recordings. You should search this out through Rave Up Records. I think Johnny Bubblegum is building a facebook page for the band so more will be posted up there in the coming weeks.

I also back posted the review for Trouble in the Camera Club. What a great book. You can find the review here http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2011/05/trouble-in-camera-club-by-don-pyle-8-12.html.

Don Pyle was able to clean up the scan on the issues of Pickering Punk so it has been replaced with the download at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/1978/03/pickering-punk-1.html and http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/1978/07/pickering-punk-2.html. These versions are much easier to read.

I made a CD cover for the Swindled session which can be found at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2011/05/studio-3-session-tuesday-may-3-2011.html.

Update: Saturday May 14, 2011

Cleave Anderson loaned me a bunch of Battered Wives material. One of them was a zine from Montreal called Surfin' Bird. The issue can be downloaded at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/1978/11/zine-surfin-bird-1.html.

There are newspaper clippings, press releases, protest flyers, photos and other Battered Wives memorabilia up now to help explain some of the stories that we heard in the Battered Wives interview.

Nico, from Vicious Cycle, wrote a book about punk rock in Sudbury. I relaized that there studio 3 sesison hasn't been uploaded yet. You can find the audio and art files up at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2007/12/sunday-december-16-2007.html. If you trace back the archive.org link you can find WAV files for this session.

Update: Saturday May 7, 2011

We recorded a studio 3 session with Swindled. They brought a number of archival pieces that we have been able to upload and add to the blog. The first bits of material are zines that the singer used to do called Pickering Punk. Issue 1 came out in March 1978 and can be downloaded at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/1978/03/pickering-punk-1.html. Issue 2 has more information about Dole Q and a review of the Curse's ep. It can be found at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/1978/07/pickering-punk-2.html.

The guitarist for the Swindled, Jaimie Vernon, was able to send us flyers and photos for a number of early shows that Swindled played in 1981 so these flyers and photos have been back dated to their show dates. Have a look under the Swindled section to pull them up. A photo abum on the EXD facebook page has collected these same flyers and photos, just not in grouped posts. We will be posting up the Studio 3 session next week and the session will be aired on Sunday May 15th with the interview.

Also inspired by the Sadies sets at the launch party for Trouble in the Camera Club I have put up the Brutal Knights interview we did with the band back on Sunday November 12th, 2004. I think this might have been Brutal Knight's first interview. You can listen to the interview at http://equalizingxdistort.blogspot.com/2004/11/radio-sunday-november-12th-2004.html.

You can download the songs, interview and cover art I made for the session.

We also spent a significant amount of time contibuting submission to the Kill from the Heart site. It's amazing what you find out is missing from your own site. We have been adding lots of content to releases by DOA and the Curse.

A transcript has gone up of teh interview we did with Grant Slavin from Negative Gain found here.
