MOVE is a radical Black Liberation movement based out of Philadelphia. Founded by the self-named “John Africa”, MOVE has an aggressively anti-capitalist, anti-technology, and anti-government agenda which led first to conflicts with their neighbors and then with the Philadelphia police.
The conflict between MOVE and the Philadelphia PD exploded into violence on two occasions, finally culminating in a standoff in 1985 which ended with the police dropping a two pound bomb on the roof of the MOVE compound, starting a fire that destroyed 65 homes and killed 11 MOVE members, including several children. Ryan is better known for being vocals on my favorite Toronto band S.H.I.T and even though Ryan moved to the UK S.H.I.T is Not Dead Yet, (No Pun Intended). They are still playing and they also just released a sick ass live recording of their pre pandemic performance at IDRIMA a squat in the middle of Athens Greece, and we heard a song of this recording called "Ekfosvismos/Ensomátosi". Right after that we heard a new band from New York called Tower 7 with a song called Zero Zum. They released this tape last May.
The set ended with Tokyo crasher crusties, L.I.F.E. They just released their third album called "Ossification of Coral" and it fucking rips. The name of the song was The End of Mother Nature, and as the title of the record implies, this is also a record to raise awareness of the importance of the ecosystem and the exploitation of coral reefs. We got to see Life at Varning Fest in 2016 lets hope they come back with this release.
