Radio - Sunday March 2nd, 2014

We got to speak with the Screwed yesterday afternoon about their new release "Green Haired Girl". We looked at the release in depth going over all the songs, the choice of covers, the recording studio, the artwork. Really just nerding out about it. So the interview was mixed live on the show with songs from the CD so you could get an idea of what we were talking about.

The back cover of the CD was taken at the corner of Queen Street West and Spadina, one of the punkest corners in Toronto. The photo was taken by Alisdair Jones, the bassist of the legendary No Mind. Immediately the photo reminded me of an Existers photo that was taken for the song "Spadina Avenue" which is the B Side to "Telex Love". The band told us a great story about how they had to keep running out in the middle of the street during light changes to get this photo. It took about six tries. Love the streetcar lines above them.Next Saturday is International Womens Day and we had received a number of releases of punk bands with women in them so here is a set to celebrate women in punk.

POLIKARPA Y SUS VICIOSAS - Una de piratas (Tideana) (Bong)
NO STATIK - Unity and Fragentation (Iron Lung)
REPLICA - You can't stop the weather (Prank)
KENNY KENNY OH OH - (Emancypunx / Contraszti)
BEYOND PINK - Doda Troga Kids (Emancypunx)
UNBELIEVERS - Cuz Im A Creep (Stumble)

Tune in next week for a whole show with women from the Toronto scene taking over the show.
