This week's show is the annual x-mas show hosted by Dave Stevenson (Emissions Records). The playlist features unique songs about christmas by punk bands, and punk covers of x-mas carols. There will be another Angry Snowmans feature. You can expect bands like the Yobs, the Muffs, and Kohu-63 as return appearances. You can also expect lesser known bands like the Sled Kennedys, Dad Brains, Colt Turkey, and Krypt-Keeper 5. New Chubby and the Gang is in the mix. There is a Ramones themed set, a feature on the Cashing in n Christmas comps, a Scandinavian set, a horror themed set, and a set of duets. Actually the Helen Love cover in the duets is my favourite from this year's show. And the show is capped with a demo feature from Oz. Download the show here.

Rob has a mixed bag of new and old releases. I put together a nostalgic set of songs about Thatcher inspired by nephew who you will hear from. Download the show here.
But up first a tribute to Jet Black which gets to why we opened with “Down in the Sewer”. Jet Black (R.I.P.) - Died Dec. 6th, 2022. Jet Black (real name - Brian Jones Duffy) died on December 6th, 2022. Jet was the drummer and founding member of the Guilford Stranglers. Jet was a successful business man owning a fleet of ice cream vans, The Jackpot which was an off license that would serve as the Stranglers home base, and one of the first home brewing facilities. Jet was a drummer in the late 50s / early 60’s and returned to drumming in 1974 starting up the Stranglers. Although Jet’s drumming was described as basic with some jazz influences the songs Down in the Sewer and Duchess exhibit more frantic drumming.

Margaret Thatcher served as the prime minister of the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990. Nicknamed the Iron Lady, Thatcher was known for her steadfast conservative politics. Thatcher's term coincided with a boom in English music in the wake of the punk movement, and much of this music harshly criticized her policies or straight up attacked her on a personal level. Bands tapped into the atmosphere of anger and discontent in Thatcher's England, singing about everything from high unemployment rates to the Falklands War. I was talking about this with my brother in law and his son on the weekend and he had some chants that became earworms that became something I had to revisit in the show this week. Here is part of a conversation with my nephew - Dylan as we talk about slogans.

Radio : EXD 1227 - Sunday, November 20th, 2022
Tonight we are raising funds for CIUT. You can go onto our site at ciut.fm and visit the donate page or there is a peer to peer fundraising page that we have set up where funds go directly to CIUT. Many things about this station are free. The volunteer time that hundreds of us put in every week. The programming is free. It’s not behind some paywall. The programming is diverse. It is done by learned experts - people who have dedicated the majority of their spare time following their scene. Very little advertising, so you don’t have to endure endless amounts of commercials to get to hear the thing you tuned in for. CIUT has figured out how to do a lot with so very little, but we do need to make up some operating costs and we could use your help. Find one of those funding portals and pitch in. It takes a community to keep a radio station broadcasting.
On tonight’s show you will hear lots of people talking about the merits of the show. I was touched but listeners and musicians who spoke about what the show means to them. There will be a lot of covers because covers of songs are fun and punk bands do a lot of them. I am also excited to share an interview with Don Pyle and Martin Sorrondeguy in the second half of the show about a double launch release party on November 26th that you should know about. Don has a new photo book coming out called Shot in the Mirror and it sounds like it is going to be amazing. And Martin has a new issue of Susto coming out.

CHUBBY AND THE GANG - Getting Beat Again (Partisan)CIUT fall fundraising 2022
We’re reaching out to you as a listener to Equalizing-X-Distort (EXD) to ask you to support CIUT. CIUT is the campus community radio station that broadcasts EXD, as well as many other unique and underground programs. As a station we need funds to do things like maintain the broadcast transmitter, to maintain broadcast equipment, and to keep the station running.
New this drive is a show portal that you can donate to the station through which is found at : https://donorbox.org/2022-fall-fundraising-drive/fundraiser/equalizing-x-distort
And we think CIUT is worth investing in. There are a ton of shows to check out and most of our listeners are fans of more than one show.
We also happen to think that what we offer in terms of a punk show is unique.
