Jon Card tribute
Jon Card passed away (April 8th) Canadian drummer, known for his work in punk bands. Referred to by many as Canada’s best punk drummer. He certainly played in a ton of iconic Canadian punk bands. Card founded the band Plasticide, later called Suburban Slag, in Calgary, Alberta. After seeing the band Personality Crisis in Calgary, he moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba to join the group. This led to stints with punk bands SNFU, DOA and The Subhumans.

On September 30th, Sealed records reissued a super rare 3 track demo by the peace punk outfit Dominant Patri. Part of the Luton scene with bands like Karma Sutra, this demo was released in June 1983; Dominant Patri playing less than 15 gigs during their brief existence. Now reissued as a single sided 12”.

Back in 2004 Mark Pesci brought the Catholic Boys to town. The Catholic Boys were a garage punk n roll band from Neenah, Wisconsin. They were kind of a big deal at the time or at least I thought so and they brought another band from a neighbouring scene in Milwaukee a band called Holy Shit!. We did a last minute studio 3 sessions with both bands but I was super impressed with Holy Shit!. A few weeks ago Andre was asking me about Holy Shit out of the blue. This recording came out as a 12” in March 2013, but was originally sold as a cassette by the band when they were called Brain Fever. I just came across the recording on the Sophie’s Floorboard blog and listened to their material and super dig it. So the cassette is self-titled and look for the song titles on the blog.
