Flyer - Saturday, April 26th, 2014

Rob Ford throws a black party every year where he bribes his constituents with Bar-B-Que food. It is called "Ford Fest". The name of this show is a pot shot at that. This show is also a record release show for the new Shit From Hell single "Mayor on Crack".  I heard Strange Attractor also have a release coming out tonight. And the Cola Heads are opening the whole thing up. The stunned look matches the Mayor who suffered another loss this week when the person he hired to head up the Toronto Housing Authority was fired for essentially creating a workplace environment that was unworkable. The Mayor threatened that there would be "chaos" and that he would re-hire him when he was voted back in. Wishful thinking and a part of a long list of Ford gravy train as his cronies continue to get payouts for jobs they are unqualified to do.

MRR Review - Cockney Rejects "Flares 'n Slippers" ep

The latest Ugly Pop Vinyl release gets reviewed in the January issue of MRR (#368).

MRR Review - The Business "Harry May"ep

Here is a review from the January issue of MRR (368) of the Business "Harry May" single. I first heard this song in the film UK DK. It was the best song on that soundtrack, but it seemed to be a different version from the one on the film. Glad someone close to home put this out. It was worth the thirty year wait to hear the version that I have wanted to hear for three decades.

The Statics were a punk band that started up in the summer of 1979. They were from Port Credit and played a place called the New Port Hotel. In 2001 Squelchtone and Ugly Pop teamed up to release a single of long forgotten recordings. Over the past few months, the drummer Ross Johnson has been in touch with us and Dean Stilles of the band and the agreed to do an interview. This was recorded a couple of weeks back for tonight's program. Most of the songs have been recovered from original recordings spanning 1979 through to 1981.

The demo feature is Concrete Asylum from Halifax and their demo "City Sick" which you can get from bandcamp. The band features a member from Word on the Street, but Concrete Asylum take influences from the noisey speed merchants of the Mid-80's UK scene in bands like Ripcord or the Electro Hippies. This is great stuff.
