After having to cut a number of bands from the playlist Dini expressed the wealth of punk bands that made up the contemporary scene and we left the door open to do a follow up show on Hungary. So the first hour and a half is a look at contemporary punk and hardcore scene in Hungary with lots of great context on the importance of each bands. There are links to bandcamp sites on each band name. You can download the show here or listen on the player above.

"Echoing out of the cracks of poor municipal infrastructure, dimly lit sprawl, failing regional transit, and the likely familiar patina of wood laminate panelling in Mum's attic, Straight Truth blast out of Whitby Ontario with a short EP of rough hardcore punk. Raw, deep, killer vocals in the school of YDI over the alpha faux-mystique of layers of effect drenched power chords, and hammering drums. There's no hiding the force with which they deliver; there's no pretending to finesse; the condemnation of the suburbs; the power of the city: pure hc. 6 originals and a Cro Mags cover." - J. "

Dave Quinton is arguably the best punk drummer in the city. There was a reason why Stiv Bators poached him for the Dead Boys. Well the Mods are playing their last show this coming Saturday. Long lost founder of this show, Simon Harvey, interviewed Dave Quinton about his time in the Mods and his time in the Dead Boys that produced these two new singles on Ugly Pop.

The Sound of your City drive

Tonight's EXD's portion of CIUT's funding drive. The theme is "The Sound of your City" and so as a way breathing life into the theme tonight's show will feature only Toronto bands. there are so many great bands in the city at the moment and so many from the past. Appreciate the sound of the scene that gets kicked around by the rest of the country. In addition we have a few pledge incentives that can only be gotten by calling in between 10:00pm and midnight on Sunday night. Those gifts include:
- 2 x Last Pogo prize packages (Thanks to Colin Brunton, which includes a DVD of the original film, a t-shirt, and that amazing poster designed by Rick Trembles)
- 2 x brand new Arson CD
- 2 x Sluts on 45 prize packs (which includes the ep, a CD, and a pass to their shows)
- 1 x Hassler prize pack (which includes a t-shirt and test pressings for both eps)
- a few copies of the first pressing of the Left for Dead / Acrid split buzzsaw LP without covers

You can call 416-946-7800 or 1-888-204-8976 or pledge on-line at http://www.ciut.fm/about/donate-today/.

We need the money for a new transmitter. We have been plagued by breakdowns on the production studio and as a result had to replace a new computer and we have had steady interruptions by construction crews around the station that have cut into our broadcast lines. This has happened a couple of times in the last few months. We could use your help.

Sluts on 45 studio 3 session

It was a training day for sure. Marie came by from a co-op down in Riverdale to witness a session in action. Candy was down to figure out how to handle the video gear when Aldo is away for the next session. Thankfully she brought her camera with her because these are all her shots. I knew Shawna from the Arson session, but I didn't realize that I had also seen her play in Spotty Botty way back when. Sue Brazen, also known as "Powerpipes"for her ability to sing without a microphone had played in previous bands and her siging style reminds me a lot of Dan from the Black Donnellys. Kreag Deezkust used to play in a band with Shawna and has been a fixture in this band for a while now. And Matt Frazer answered a Craigslist ad for a drummer and got the spot when he answered correctly to the question "Are you a slut?" They refer to Matt as "Sticks". Matt is a long time listener to CIUT and Mods n Rockers in particular. Maybe he will start listening to this show.

Anyway to complicate things we were also expecting Ruidosa Inmundicia to come down and record some songs if they could make it away from their gig at Parts and Labour. Luckily that didn`t happen because we wound up being pressed for time. Unfortunately it didn`t happen because how many times do you get to record a band from Austria with a singer from Chile. Jonathon Hawkes was our sound engineer after doing a day of audio work already. He was pretty knackered, but that didn`t seem to affect the sound. The session got started late but we were able to record everything and finish on time.
We recorded the following songs:

11. Problem
12. Bored (The Troggs)

We also recorded a bunch of IDs but you have to listen to the show to hear those, which is found on the next radio show post.

The band has an 'ep' which is really a digital download of a recording called "Steeped in Semen`` up at their bandcamp page.

Aldo and Candy videotaped the set for Punks and Rockers which will be posted up here in a couple of months. Check back.

Toronto Star - Motor Mike

Radio - Sunday November 25th, 2012

We started off tonight's show with a tribute to the great Toronto punk drummer Motor Mike Anderson who passed away last Thursday.

We featured some great material by new bands like the Reacharounds (from Missouri), Permaculture (from the UK), Wiggler and the Tiny Humans, No Mistake (from California), and Kromosom (from Australia). We also featured new Canadian material by the Drunken Knights (from Barrie), the Facials (from Montreal), and Concrete Asylum (from Dartmouth).

Tonight's demo feature is a new band from Toronto called Farang, a band made up with Payson who sings for Purity Control and played guitar in Capital Death, a band in which he played with Matt Carroll who is also in this band. Matt used to sing for the Endless Blockade. Ivan Davies-Roberts of the School Jerks and Kremlin is also moonlighting with Farang. Have a listen.

Radio - Sunday June 3rd, 2012

We started out with the Sex Pistols "Friggin in a riggin'" because today Queen Elizabeth celebrated the Diamond Jubilee with a boat ride down the Thames River. Thirty years ago the Sex Pistols hired a boat and played "God Save the Queen" while sailing by Buckingham Palace and were arrested which prompted writing "Friggin' and a Riggin'" as a song for the "Great Rock 'n Roll Swindle". We do a top 10 for May 2012 in this show. D'Arcy programs sets on Japanese and Swedish hardcore. S.H.I.T. are featured in the demo segment at the end. Click to download or listen to the show.
