MRR Review - Simply Saucer "Bullet Proof Nothing" ep

Simply Saucer were this little known proto punk band from Hamilton with a Velvet Underground sound. The Pig Paper started a label and released this single in the mid-70's and this represents the recent pressing of the legendary single. The title to Liz Worth's book "Treat me like Dirt" is part of the song's lyrics. This review is from the May 2014 issue of MRR (#372).

Treat Me Like Dirt

Liz Worth interviewed as many first wave Toronto punks as she could find. She organized their story telling into chapters based around event and ways to describe the scene. The result is an anecdotal story telling by the characters that made up that scene. It is brilliant because punk is an oral history and Liz uses their quotes to retell their stories. She doesn't re-write or paraphrase or even use rock journalism techniques. Instead she gathers quotes by the folks involved in the incidents and has them tell the story. There is always more than one story teller so they go back and forth and you get a perspective on the folk lore and legends of Toronto. Gary Topp, Colin Brunton, Steve Leckie, members of Teenage Head, members of the Diodes, members of the Ugly, and loads of other unsung bands that made up the scene. She hads done an incredible job here of bringing the stories back to life. And Gary Pig Gold of the Pig Paper assists in the editting and Ralph Alfonso publishes this on Bongo Beat Records so this has more than gone through the first wave filter of fact checking. You can be assured that the stories in here are accurate.

EXD IN MRR - SIMPLY SAUCER

Imants Krumins and Robert Sikora interview Simply Saucer at CIUT. The band started in 1973 in Hamilton and had a huge impact on the punk scene in it's inception. They were just too far ahead of their own time. But they released "She's a Dig" 7" and the "Cyborgs Re-visited" LP, but by 1979 they had called it a day. They are playing and recording again and so we submitted their interview to MRR who were very excited about the prospect of an interview. The interview appears in the September 2008 edition of MRR, issue #304 and is still available at http://maximumrocknroll.com/back-issues/.

Simply Saucer "Cyborgs Revisted" CD

This was a CD issue of the infamous "Cyborgs Revisted" LP that was recorded at Bob and Daniel Lanois's home studio on July 14th and 15th, 1974, making it the first recording of a band associated with the punk scene. Sonic Unyon was responsible for the re-issue. These songs are:
