Many times on the shows we are doing tributes to punks who have passed away, but tonight we are going to play some hasher rock for Malcolm Young who passed away yesterday from dementia. There is no disputing that AC DC were a rock band, but they rocked like punks, so this is “Whole Lotta Rosie” because the only punk band that I ever saw do an AC DC cover was No SYSTEM from Boston and this is the song they covered.

The live recordings remain a staple on Equalizing-X-Distort. Tuesday nights we load in at the broadcast studio. Record as much as we can in about an hour and a half. Load out and then come back and do an interview, which all gets mixed and then mixed live on Sunday night as a feature of a local band usually. A lot of work goes into those sessions from all involved from the bands, to the volunteers to the broadcast. Rob, from Pure Pressure / the Protruders, who was in over the last six months talks about what it was like to come in and what it means for bands. Zine - EXD, Volume 14, Issue 1

The new issue of the EXD zine is out and this issue features an interview with two members from Creative Zero who were a hardcore band from the early 80's that formed in the Peterborough area. James Zero, who played guitar, and Joel Wasson, who played drums, were the interviewees. They fill us in on the band tell us about moving to Toronto, give us stories about the shows they played, the bands they played with and the clubs that this all happened in. They also inform us that they were recorded for a second T.O Hardcore comp that never came out. But they were in "Not Dead Yet" so that is part of the narrative. Tim Freeborn transcribed this beat of a discussion. We also included a few reviews of an ealry Toronto punk zine called "Smash it Up" with links to on-line versions so that you can download them for yourself.

The Groggies, from Barrie / Orillia, recorded a session this past Tuesday which had a song called "Pull the Trigger" foretelling the incident that happened in New Town, Connecticut. Don't read more into the song other then punk bands seem to know more about the crummier side of life.

Demo Feature
The Kidz were a punk band around between 1979 ad 1980 in the Campbelford / Peterborough area. They would play a few shows in the area mostly at a place called the Playpen. Sabastion Bach from Skid Row was from Peterborough and would go to shows there. The Kidz could probably be considered the first punk band from the area writing originals. This is a basement recording re-created last year by Joel Wasson and the guitar player re-creating it. So although this doesn't represent an original recording it gives us an idea of the punk material from the time. This is the band that would develop into Creative Zero.

This show is a feature on Creative Zero, who were a hardcore band that existed from 1981 - 1984. The band was originally from Peterborough and they moved to Toronto and got involved in our local scene. They did a 15 song recording in 1984 with Brian Taylor at Accusonic that sounds as great as anything on the "T.O. Hardcore" comp. Guitarist, James Zero and drummer Joel Wasson came in and spoke about the band, the time, and the recording. There was lots of perspective on this heyday period of the Toronto hardcore scene.
