Radio - Sunday, April 26th, 2015
This show features the third installment of Notes from Behind the Iron Curtain with a focus on Croatia. Beri Sabolic, who grew up as a punk in Croatia, hosted this hour and a half feature beginning with Paraf. Beri's credentials include hosting a punk radio show in Croatia called "Ispod zemlje" which means "Under the Ground". Beri also did a zine and record label called "Ill in the Head" which goes without saying that Beri is also a big record collector. When Beri moved to Canada he moved to Montreal and did two radio shows at Concordia (CJLO), one called "Foreign Accent" and the other called "Night Porter".

Radio - Sunday, April 12th, 2015
Every six months we host an on-air fundraising drive. In our training, the Station Manager thought a pass off between EXD and the Prophesy was impossible so I tried to prove him wrong with out little game of name that tune which gets played every week between us off air. But this week it was my turn because the Prophesy aren't as well versed in the finer areas of punk. So I tried with covers of Kool and the Gang and the Specials at the begining of the show to disasterous effect. Listen on....
BIG BOYS - Hollywood Swingin’ (Touch 'n Go)
SNUFF – Do Nothing (Workers Playtime)
SCREECHING WEASEL – I can see clearly (Lookout)
THE VAPIDS – You’re tearin’ me apart (Double Hell)
Every couple of weeks we record bands in our broadcast studio (known as studio 3). Candy has really been involved in the video side of recording these bands and so much work goes into those that I wanted her to come on air and tell you some of what she gets up to with these sessions. I also had her program some material from these sessions.....
TEENAGE HEAD – Disgusteen (CIUT)
FLESH RAG - Milk Man (CIUT)
VCR - Pizza Party (CIUT)
Sarde is one of the women behind the women takeover of the show and also runs out of time to play material in her sets. She came in to make up for that and tell us about some magic moments of the takeover.
SLURS – Cartoon People (Self-Released)
SOA – I Hate the Kids (Dischord)
THE FREEZE – Idiots at Happy Hour (Modern Method)
COMA – Coda (ADK)
This is the first of Rob's radio appreciation sets.
MISFITS – Static Age (Caroline)
FLESHEATERS – Radio dies screaming (Atavistic)
PROBLEM CHILDREN – On the Air (Problem Children Wreckords)
THE BANANAS – Radio Action (Recess)
Davis Brown was a co-host on the show for a few years, but has since moved back to Truro. He runs a label called Sewercide and offered out his last three releases as a prize package so we played a song from each with exception for the last release which comes from a demo.
DYSCONTROL – Lies (Sewercide)
ABJECT PAX – Abject Pax (Sewercide)
WORD ON THE STREET – H.R.M. Mayhem (Self-Released)
More appreciation for the medium from punk.
WAND – Floating Head (In the Red)
THE WIMPS – Hamburger radio (Sniff)
KILL-A-WATTS – Radio Suicide (Rip Off)
TEENGENERATE – radio 55 (Crypt)
Alex from the Sofistifucks came in to answer phones but I wanted to get his unique perspective of what it was like to have played studio 3.Fathers was supposed to come in and talk about their session but they left us hanging high and dry. I still played a song from their demo and will play their session on Sunday's show.
FATHERS – I Gotta Piss (Self-Released)
MDC – No Place to Piss (R Radical)
SCHOOL JERKS – Slums of the Future (Bad Vibrations)
More radio love
ELVIS COSTELLO – Radio Radio (Columbia)
BOW WOW WOW – Radio G String (EMI)

Fathers studio 3 session
Fathers are a new band from Toronto started up by Jada (singer) and Arina (bassist), but it was only recently when they got Josh on drums and Cale on guitar that the band became the version that recorded the recent six song demo "Gain". I came across the "Gain" demo from a link found on the Facebook event page for the Ajax show which was the first show Fathers played. But I met Jada at the IWD takeover of EXD and she was interested in having the band come in and record a session. In my interactions with Jada she talks like a rapper and espouses a big appreciation for Drake, so that is an influence on her. I wonder if the Beastie Boys might be a similar trajectory given she has a foot in each world. Even some of the vocal delivery shares the influences. Arina used to play in Cunt Punt, which was an all women band that I wanted to get into the station but learned that they have broken up.
The music is rudimentary in terms of punk. The band would often jump into loungey jazz improvs in between songs. They also have a lo fi sound. All of this reminds me of early Minutemen. But lyrically the subject matter focuses on sexuality the same way the Submissives did.
We recorded the same songs from the "Gain" recording. you can download these new versions here which include:
1. Boy Pussy
2. Lover Boy
3. I Gotta Piss
4. Bath Bomb
5. Silver Dick
6. New Phone Who Dis
The band also did IDs based on their songs:
Fathers CIUT ID
Fathers EXD ID
The session was mastered by Ian Wilkinson and videotaped by Aldo Erdic for Punks and Rockers.

Vassil Mester, who has been on the show twice (once with City Sweethearts and once with Absolut), passed away on Wednesday April 1st. His band mate, Travis, from Terminal Licks programmed the first hour of bands with Vassil and bands he liked. This week Canada has declared war on ISIS and will begin air strikes in Syria. Day 6 debated the declaration that this a moral war. This week's demo feature is a new band from, Newfoundland called Animal Crimes. Their recent review in MRR caught my eye enough to have me searching for this recording which has a Vacant State feel in that SSD meets DYS sort of way. ANIMAL CRIMES - Criminal Realm
ANIMAL CRIMES - Dearnged Mental State
ANIMAL CRIMES - Fear
