NO POLICY interview (Stephen)
The idea for this interview started by accident with me coming across a demo from a little known early hardcore band out of Montreal. I asked a question about them on a Montreal hardcore page on facebook and the response was immediate and emphatic. The guitarist Rebecca Sevrin reached out. I would learn that she plays in Frightwig and does design work for some big names in California. Rebecca talks about the band, their songs, the penguin logo, the early Montreal hardcore scene. We start off with their contribution to the Primitive Air Raid comp.

Demo Feature
MUD were a hardcore punk band from the early 1990’s. My first band One Blood played many shows with them and they made us better. But nobody could be as entertaining as Mud so it was a losing game playing with them. Their songs were always evolving as the band was influenced by Frank Zappa’s style. Some of them went to OCAD and they would bring these learnings to the stage with themes and costumes. I have been thinking about them this week because I just learned that one of their lead singers, Mitchell Shore just passed away. I don’t know how to do justice when speaking about Mitchell. He was always in on fun. Often picking up on jokes and running with them. He could really bring laughter to life. He also had a moral compass that was stronger than most. In discussions with that guy he would often get you to see another viewpoint and motivate you to get involved. He was the best of us and I am broken up by his passing. There was a recording that the band did that Chris Iler from Fans of Bad Productions digitized and kept alive and although we don’t have enough time on tonight’s show to play it all I would like to play some of it as a tribute to someone I loved to laugh with.

Record label profiles (Stephen)
Testimonial from Dave Brown at Sewercide Records - Many, many years ago, I had a small hand in helping out with @equalizingxdistort , a Toronto based punk and hardcore radio show that has been operating weekly from 1998 until present day. A staggering amount of work and dedication has gone into that show for the last 27 years and while many things come and go, the EXD crew continues to show up week after week to play punk tunes over the airwaves. Recently, my former co-host Stephe Perry reached out and invited me back on to the show to discuss all things to do with the label as well as some of my musical projects and all things maritime punk. If you can stomach hearing me spouting off for an hour, you can tune into the show tonight or follow the link on their account to the @equalizingxdistort blog and listen to the show now. Thank you Stephe and EXD for the invite and the continued support of our weird little scene.
