We are producing the show on Wednesday night. Today was the most recent attack on homeless communities by the city. The Alexandra Park community was criminalized today. Trinity-Bellwoods three weeks ago. Moss Park two weeks ago. Lamport stadium yesterday. Alexandra Park today. Criminalizing a vulnerable population seems cruel. 

We have a lot of interesting things on the show tonight including an early PERSONALITY CRISIS demo in our demo feature. But first we are going to start out with some tributes to recently departed members of the scene starting out with Jimmy Weatherstone who drummed for the DEMICS.

George Higton passed away recently. This was off a CD released in 2010 called “Depreciation” which featured newly recorded versions of songs written between 1978 and 1980. Here's a link to the interview with the band. George also was a big part of Shades Magazine which was one of the important first zines covering punk in Toronto. I have seen five issues and they covered a lot.

Demo Feature 

Tonight’s demo feature is by a band named PERSONALITY CRISIS. Originally from Winnipeg they would move around and make different places their home (Edmonton, Los Angeles, Vancouver). They formed in 1979 and disbanded by 1984. In 2017 a label named Sounds Escaping would release the band’s recorded material which included this second demo recorded in 1981.

Bruce La Bruce is an important name in the Toronto hardcore scene. He is mostly known for his filmaking. He was one of the first people to mix hardcore punk with LGBTQ footage. One film constantly referred to is “No Skin Off My Ass”. When he was first learning his craft he hung out and lived with FIFTH COLUMN and became a go go dancer for them and appeared on some of their recordings like “The Fairview Mall Story” which will feature in this interview. He did a zine called J.D.'s. He played drums in ZuZu’s Petals. He helped coin the term “Homocore”. He wrote a LGBTQ manifesto called “Don’t be Gay” that appeared in April issue of Maximumrocknroll in 1989. He did many films featuring some amazing people in the hardcore scene. In an interview that we did in 2018 for the book “Tomorrow is Too Late” Bruce takes us through the back stories of all these projects and fills us in on a whole lot more about the punk scene back then. The ripple effect of Mein Trumpf's hockey dad response to the real threats by the boys in blue on People of Colour spread out world wide this weekend. The push back happened and although we are hopeful that something will come of it, the problem is a decades old problem. Looking back over forty years of punk the one theme the comes up generation after generation is how badly the cops suck. Thanks to everyone who contributed on facebook with their suggestions. We weren't able to fit all of them in and it is clear that we could probably do a second show. Sadly we probably will have to because if you are a Person of Colour or a Punk George Floyd's experience is going to happen again. Hope this can become a soundtrack for resistance. Dec 31, 2019 – BC Supreme Court grants Coastal GasLink an injunction for removal of obstacles
Jan. 1, 2020 – Wet’suwet’en First Nation serves Coastal GasLink with an eviction notice telling workers that they are trespassing on unceded territory
Jan 27th – BC Government appoints Nathan Cullen as provincial liaison
Jan 30th – The hereditary chiefs agree to seven days of meetings with the province
Feb 5th – Talks fail
Feb 6th – Protesters outside of Belleville start holding up railway traffic
Feb 7th VIA rail halts service in this transit corridor. CN obtains a court injunction to end the demonstration
Feb 8 – Protesters disrupt CP Rail in Toronto
Feb 9th Kahnawake Mohawk community members set up a blockade
Feb 10th – Demonstrators in Montreal disrupt commuter service
Feb 11th – CN stops trabnsport between Prince George and prince Rupert because of blockade near Hazelton, BC

Feb 12th - CN obtain court order for Manitoba protest. The RCMp say they have ended enforcement in BC, but they still have their trailers there.

Pete from Hits and Misses has a love for the novelty of punk christmas songs. Some of this novelty wore off on Dave from Dirty BS. This is the second year in a row that Dave has hosted the christmas special on EXD bringing songs that haven't aired before or in a while. He also played a Bishops Green song that Pete requested last year, which is sort of a haunting from the ghost of x-mss show's in the past. There was lots of back story to the songs chosen in the spirit of story telling that comes with this part of the year. The Angry Snowmans do a tribute to the Subhumans. This is the program for July 1st, 2012, which happens to be "Canada Day" so we started off the show with the Subhumans and we played "Oh Canaduh". As we played it there waqs a realization with how shockingly accurate the lyrics continue to be even though they were written 30 plus years ago. We started off tonight's show with a set of bands from Spain to honour the country's victory in the Euro 2012 final. We featured an interview with Martin Sorrendeguy from Limp Wrist because they are in town to play a tribute for Will Munro at this year's Pride events.
