Radio - Sunday, December 13th, 2020

Tonight's show features a tribute to Hammer City / Schizophrenic Records, Mortarhate compilations, sets of old and new punk and guest DJ Cat. Cat used to do a radio show in Rome called Search and Destroy and has translated some books into Italian which include one on the Cramps and one on the early rock scene in NYC. When the city is not in lockdown Cat DJs clubs under Nora Noise. Download the show here.

THE PAGANS OF NORTHUMBERLAND - Awaydays (Self-Released

Hammer City Records (R.I.P.)
A few weeks back Hammer City Records was evicted from their space by a landlord looking for excuses to evict tenants. Stuff you normally see in Toronto. As gentrification becomes a thing in the Hammer the same shit is happening there. The record store connected to Schizophrenic Records is looking for a new retail space, but in the meantime I thought we could spin some releases by the label. Starting out with a band they championed early on.

LEGION666 - Abhorrence Contained (Schizophrenic)
HAZARDOUS WASTE - Skate Block (Schizophrenic)
HASSLER - Enlightened (Schizophrenic)
BORN WRONG - Torch the Place (Schizophrenic)
TV FREAKS - Salutation (Schizophrenic)

Cat has guest DJed on the show before. Her scene cred extends to Rome where she did a radio show called "Search and Destroy". Cat also translated a book on the Cramps into Italian "Viaggio al centro dei Cramps". Then she translated "New York Rock: From the Rise of the Velvet Underground to the Fall of CBGB's". And when the pandemic isn't locking down the city Cat is DJing under the name "Nora Noise".

Demo Feature
Tonight’s demo feature is a band from Winnipeg. They have a brand new 10” ep that I read a review on MRR’s site which described them as

The impression of listening to the first couple of tracks was about DISORDER/CHAOS UK vibes but this also somehow has a F.Y.P. or Recess Records feel. Less punch or aggression, more garage punky, and sloppy, catchy (somewhat), and most importantly, fun. Artwork consists of pictures of a dump and with song titles like “We’ve Tried Nothing And We’re All Out Of Ideas” it sounds like trash in the most appropriate way possible.

The recording is great and we’ll add a link to our blog tomorrow, but here is a demo recorded three years earlier.
