We got to speak with the Screwed yesterday afternoon about their new release "Green Haired Girl". We looked at the release in depth going over all the songs, the choice of covers, the recording studio, the artwork. Really just nerding out about it. So the interview was mixed live on the show with songs from the CD so you could get an idea of what we were talking about.

The back cover of the CD was taken at the corner of Queen Street West and Spadina, one of the punkest corners in Toronto. The photo was taken by Alisdair Jones, the bassist of the legendary No Mind. Immediately the photo reminded me of an Existers photo that was taken for the song "Spadina Avenue" which is the B Side to "Telex Love". The band told us a great story about how they had to keep running out in the middle of the street during light changes to get this photo. It took about six tries. Love the streetcar lines above them.Next Saturday is International Womens Day and we had received a number of releases of punk bands with women in them so here is a set to celebrate women in punk.

The new issue of the EXD zine is out and this issue features an interview with two members from Creative Zero who were a hardcore band from the early 80's that formed in the Peterborough area. James Zero, who played guitar, and Joel Wasson, who played drums, were the interviewees. They fill us in on the band tell us about moving to Toronto, give us stories about the shows they played, the bands they played with and the clubs that this all happened in. They also inform us that they were recorded for a second T.O Hardcore comp that never came out. But they were in "Not Dead Yet" so that is part of the narrative. Tim Freeborn transcribed this beat of a discussion. We also included a few reviews of an ealry Toronto punk zine called "Smash it Up" with links to on-line versions so that you can download them for yourself.
