Radio - Sunday, July 22nd, 2018

Tonight's show features a mixed bag of punk with some themed sets based around subject matter. There is a set on Sex Ed curriculum featuring local band's on the topic which always surprises me how forward thinking the punk scene is. And there is a set that is pro-immigration punk songs. And a new band from Barrie bis our demo feature which is a band called Heavy Petter. Download the show here.

FLASH HOUSE - No Solution (Self-Released)

A Sex Ed Curriculum was introduced into the Ontario education system with the last government and the new conservative government is scrapping it kicking off a series of protests in various ways. But in looking back at some of the bands that have been on the show they have been writing about how the sex ed curriculum has a little short sighted specifically VCR. So I put together a set of punk from Toronto of bands addressing issues around sex, sexuality and gender issues. Just to add another voice to the debate and protests.

Radio - Sunday, June 18th, 2017

Dragged In were at CIUT on Tuesday May 30th. The band is relatively new although they have been jamming since the break up of Dead Mouth. Marty and Dave got Bruce from End Program to jam who then brought in Patty from Brutal Youth and when they recorded they passed it on to Cox to mix. Cox digs the band and joins and the line up is set. Now that is the Reader's Digest version of how they got together but the band members talk different versions of their origin story, which is completely opposite to each other. After the air clears the band talks about their influences, their good fortune in playing with bag named bands, their songs, their recordings, punk in Newfoundland / Labrador, and ranch salad dressing among other things. You can check out the interview on the player above or download an MP3 file here.

This is the program for Equalizing-X-Distort on Superbowl Sunday and I had just heard an interview with Malcolm Gladwell equating the NFL to a bloodsport with regards to dementia so I started out with 7 Seconds "I Hate Sports", for which the lyrics of the song start out "I hate football games".

In Toronto, our Mayor is in the midst of his latest scandal, this one regarding election overspending, so we started off the show with bands that have written about the Rob Ford influence on this city.

Ivan starts out a set with a band from Mexico and also plays the Hygiene single which features a guy from the Toronto scene on vocals. He also gets the Feederz and the Comes and the Damned in a set.

Rob profiles the latest Ugly Pop garage series releases. Bands like A Passing Fancy and Northwest Company.

There was a second setbased around current events but more of an international nature looking at the Superbowl, the Idle No More protest at Lansdowne and Dupont, The escalating war in Syria, and the tech stories with RIM and Twitter. It is my version of "Riffing the News".

D'Arcy did a set of hard hitting hardcore.

Ivan did a second setof classics, this time playing Systematic Death and Icons of Filth and the Chiefs.

Rob did a set with Steel Pole Bathtub covering Cheap Trick.

Radio - Sunday October 21st, 2012

This program was our part of CIUT's Fall 2012 fundraising drive. Thanks to everyone who donated their time, money and gift incentives to the show. We didn't meet our goal and we still do have a few things to giveaway like the Not Dead yet pass for a $100 donation. You can make the donation at www.ciut.fm. E-mail me once you have made the donation or before hand to find out about their availability. We also have a Studio 3 DVD put together by Aldo Erdic for $50 donations. Once again contact me. The e-mail address is equalizingxdistort@ciut.fm.

Ryan and Matt from Wrong Generation joined us to talk about the merits of the Studio 3 sessions. Greg Benedetto echoed those sentiments and gave us a brief rundown on the Not Dead Yet fest. Aldo spoke to us about the DVDs and the importance of recording these sessions on a video format. The Blue Demon spoke to us about the importance of the history of the scene. Radio - Sunday May 20th, 2012

Tonight's show featured a couple of sets dedicated to the students in Quebec who have just been put under further attach by the Charest government given the new legistlations of restrictions to numbers of people who can gather and restrictions for people covering their face. We also dedicated the Hunchies song "Fuck Disco Beats" to Donna Summer. We played a set about religion which was dedicated to the Queen of Enlgland and the monarchs claim for ascenedency. Misty Rock n Roll brought a set of sunshine to mark a day that felt like the start of summer. And then we had a set that started off with a song about pizza because Kelly had just arrived to the show with a giant vegan tomato pie. Tonight's demo feature is a raging new all girl band from oakland called Replica. You can hear our show or read our playlist.

I found a great blog posting about the Replica demo at Terminal Escape. You can also read more about the band at their facebook page. Essentially they are an all star all girl hardcore band living in Oakland and featuring the guitarist from Infect, the drummer from No Statik, the bassist from Bad Blood, and the singer from Duck and Cover. Hear the ferocity for yourself on the MP3 download above.
