World Pride launched in our city earlier this week. In order to get in the spirit of the festivities around the city we put together a punk rock jukebox of LGBT positive songs over the years starting off with Limp Wrist's "The Ode". Rob found this clip on-line from a legendary show in Hamilton at the Rockpile,. Skinheads tried to shut down the show but the scene banded together to kick them out. This was the tour that "Walk Together, Rock Together" had come out and I seem to remember that Ray Cappo joined in on "Colourblind". The rap part being sung by a New Yorker was special.

This program started out with a set of Hallowe'en songs written or performed by Canadian hardcore bands. That was followed up by a set up power violence and noise rock inspired bands which included the new Column of Heaven LP and the Veuve SS 12". We followed that up with a set of bands featuring women in the line up and included Sick Fix from Baltimore, and Criaturas among others. The next set featured a rare Polish band called Abaddon and a request from last week for Personality Crisis. We did a Black Flag inspired set with the new School Jerks and new Off! because they were in town last week. We finished up with a get up and go set that featured this incredible Japanese hardcore band named Think Again, after the Minor Threat song. For our Labour Day show we featured an interview with Chris Walter about his new book "SNFU: What No One Else Wanted to Say". Chris has just released the book on GFY Press and was in town two weeks ago to talk about it. In the little time that we had we spoke about the book, about the band from Edmonton, and about his other band biographies. I wish I had more time to go in detail about some of the band's more known songs, but we did what we could, but getting at some of the highlights. There are a lot more to read about in his book.

We also got to feature the demo of Pure Scum who are from North Carolina. In the recent issue of MRR the band is described as "Boston not L.A." era Jerry's Kids meets SOA meets "United Blood". All that and they start out with a song railing against school just two days before school starts. Who can't relate to that? You can get the demo through Sorry State.
