This week was our bi-annual fundraising show. Thanks to everyone who pitched in with coming in to the station, answering phone, donating prizes and donating cash to CIUT. You can still donate on-line and thanks to so many who have been doing that after the fact through www.ciut.fm. We start out the last few drives with a game of name that tune of punk bands doing ska-ish covers. James St. Bass knew it and stayed mum, but James Brown got stumped again. Download the show here or listen on the player above.

HUDSON MACK – So Lonely

So the next song is for Steve Kurzell who passed away last week. Steve Milo from Sudden Impact wrote us about Steve's passing and asked for us to play "Guns and Children" because the song sticks in your head and is super relevant with the gun climate in the U.S. Sadly still relevant.

Lots of people from the golden generation of hardcore are passing away. And recently a book about our first wave of Toronto hardcore came out called “Tomorrow is Too Late”. FRATRICIDE – Rip Wide the Sky (Schizophrenic / Ugly Pop)
HONG KONG BLONDE - Blind Faith (Self-Released)

ARTIFICIAL DISSEMINATION - U.R.R. Superheroes (Self-Released)
SICK OF SHIT – Parasites (Schizophrenic)

Radio - Sunday, July 22nd, 2018

Tonight's show features a mixed bag of punk with some themed sets based around subject matter. There is a set on Sex Ed curriculum featuring local band's on the topic which always surprises me how forward thinking the punk scene is. And there is a set that is pro-immigration punk songs. And a new band from Barrie bis our demo feature which is a band called Heavy Petter. Download the show here.

FLASH HOUSE - No Solution (Self-Released)

A Sex Ed Curriculum was introduced into the Ontario education system with the last government and the new conservative government is scrapping it kicking off a series of protests in various ways. But in looking back at some of the bands that have been on the show they have been writing about how the sex ed curriculum has a little short sighted specifically VCR. So I put together a set of punk from Toronto of bands addressing issues around sex, sexuality and gender issues. Just to add another voice to the debate and protests.

MRR Review - Jimmy Vapid "Triangulator" ep

The TV Freaks refer to Jimmy Vapid as one take Jimmy. The number of songs on this release speak to that record a good idea and be done with it. Jimmy is a riff machine. This was reviewed in the February 2014 issue of MRR (#369).

MRR Review - Jimmy Vapid "Realities of War" ep

This was in the February 2014 issue of MRR (#369)

MRR Review - Jimmy Vapid "Humble Beginnings" ep

Jimmy Vapid can't be stopped from making music. He moved out to the sticks away from his brother and band, but he continues on as a one man band. I love that spirit about Jimmy. This is the one of three releases by Jimmy reviewed in the February issue of MRR (#369).

The show starts out with a Justn Ludwig interview. Justin just released a feature length film on evangelist hardcore called "Christ Core". Justin was in Toronto last Saturday and we spoke to hm before his first screening where he was here in town doing a series of Q & As on his film. I was a little excited to talk to him about his film and wound up cutting him off a little to many times, but he was a good sport about trying to answer my recollections about his film. He is a super nice guy and you can read more about his film on Facebook. You can also download the show as an MP3 file.

I was listening to "Democracy Now" on Saturday and they did a feature on the MOVE bombing that took place on Mother's Day in 1985. I was looking for songs based around the interview with Ramona Africa and the other interviews with Angela Davis and Mumia Abu-Jamal. The first song was a specch by Angela Davis at Convocation Hall the night the first Gulf War was launched. I wish I had Anti-Flag's "Mumia's Song" and I mis cued the Propagandhi song which used a COINTELPRO reference. But Aus Rotten's song is an understatement of Ramona Africa's assessment which was a campaign of extermination.

ONE BLOOD - Make the Links (Gern Blandsten)
PROPAGANDHI - Ordinary people do fucked up things when fucked up things become ordinary (G7 Welcoming Committee)
NAPALM HEARTS - Guilty by Association (Helta Skelta)

Valley Boys demo

The VALLEY BOYS are a new local hardcore band inspired by KBD punk, oi, garage punk, the ANGRY SAMOANS, rock n roll, old American hardcore and old punk.  The band is made up of Jimmy Vapid (the VAPIDS) and Jon (BRUTAL KNIGHTS) fame. Jon grew up with the drummer Kalle who is from Cornwall. And the missing link is Matt Hitch who is on guitar and vocals and used to be in the SCHOOL JERKS. The band has just learned that Cut the cord that...
Records (http://ctct-records.tumblr.com), out of Munster Germany,  will be releasing the demo as a 12”. Cut the Cord that...  has released material by NEON PISS, FOREIGN OBJECTS, and VACCINE among others so the VALLEY BOYS are in good company. Look out for P-Trash doing a 7” after that. You can download the demo at http://vboys666.bandcamp.com/album/valley-boys. (e-mail -  vboys666@gmail.com).
